Moment Messages

December 2007

Seems as though something has been lost in the spirit of the Christmas season, as decorations are showing up in the summer time now each year in various stores. The push of greed has prompted merchants to begin beaconing for every possible dollar before the next guy can seize it.

As a child I remember how the street crews began on the day after Thanksgiving to put the snowflakes, candy canes and reindeer lights on the poles of our town streets. Being a child, I just could not wait for the first day of December and for the lighting of the tree and the sparkling decorations on the street posts. Christmas carols and a simpler time prevail in our lives as we enjoyed this special time once each year.

Though our gifts seem to pale in comparison to the technology of today, our hearts were filled and flowing with a great appreciation with the real meaning of Christmas. The simple manger scene with home made shepherd staffs and bathrobes for our attire, bring back wonderful memories I hope will never be forgotten. As a child you waited, with bubbling anticipation for your name to be called out and to receive your present, after all the hard hours of labor to put on the play for everyone. What wonderful beautiful days those days were in our childhood.

I would not trade my years as a boy growing up in our community and the faith I found there, at Fairmont Missionary Baptist Church as an eight year old boy. Christmas is for children and the message of the Savior is for everyone. No matter who you are, where you live, your nationality, your church affiliation, God loves us all. Let’s not forget the real reason for the season, this year. Have a blessed and meaningful Christmas. Sheila and I wish you God’s very best in 2008.

In Christ,

Bro. Donny and Sis. Sheila
