"Press Toward The Mark"
much time do you spend looking back on the events of your life? Someone once
said that hindsight is 20/20. All of us have wished at sometime or the other
that we would have had the benefit of seeing ahead in time to avoid the
blunders in decisions we’ve made. Yet our past can hold for us great insight
for the future if we will only learn from it. Many of our treasured memories
and moments have brought us great joy as we have looked back on them. The
key in living a successful Christian life is found in knowing which way to
look. The Psalmist David said in Psalms 121:1-2, “I will lift up mine eyes
unto the hills from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord
which made heaven and earth.“ David’s direction was turned toward the
leading of the Lord in his life. Though we can find strength, encouragement
and understanding in looking back, our focus must be turned ahead to God.
Life at times can only be understood by looking backward, but it must be
lived by looking forward. Philippians 3:13-14 exhorts us to forget the guilt
of our past and “press toward the mark of the prize of the high calling of
God in Christ Jesus.” It is here, that we can then walk in victory each day
as children of God. Always look up to the one who reaching down to touch
those in need who will call upon His powerful name.
